First Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The Park County Board of Commissioners will convene with Sheriff Tom McGraw today during their administrative session to discuss the upcoming No King Day protests in Fairplay and Bailey. Or, to put it another way, now that No King Day is forthcoming, after years, decades even, of folks from both sides of the spectrum exercising their First Amendment rights in Fairplay and Bailey, with some of those free speech and lawful assemblies occurring along Highway 285, waving signs and flags for passersby to see and like or dislike, now that No King Day is here we’ve got to stifle that activity, rein in those constitutional rights, and bar We, the People from exercising them. Is that the agenda here? Or do the commissioners want to know from McGraw whether the National Guard or the Marines will be needed to maintain the peace and tranquility of Park County on June 14? I don’t know. Is this a pot/kettle issue?
