Park County Repugnants

Definitely not the party of Lincoln

by George Seaton

So, the Big Lie believers, the South Park Outsiders, the Truth isn’t Truth subscribers, the Tactical Civics proponents, the Christian Nationalists, the so-called Constitutional Conservatives, the We hate taxes except for that great little sales tax we’re gonna dip into to rob Peter to pay Paul adherents, the anti-abortion, anti-factual-Ameican history, anti-books they don’t like, anti-pretty-much-everything that doesn’t comport to what white men who still wore powdered wigs to dinner believed way back when; that bevy of far-right, hair on fire crowd have taken over what used to be the Park County Republican Party. I call them Repugnants because they are.

I envision a Repugnant at the Last Supper, cautioning Jesus to recant all that socialism crap he preached before he was carted off to Golgotha.

BOCC Chair Amy Mitchell is now Chair of the Park County Repugnants. Imagine that. She is described by some as decidedly squat, but she stood tall with Michelle Malkin when that Groyper partisan declared America First was the code phrase for redemption from evil. (Groypers are white nationalists, nativists, sexists, anti-semitic, homophobic, hard-right activists who favor green frogs.) Who is Amy Mitchell, and why should we care is here.

The Park County Repugnants created a new website which, I do believe, is more blue than red. The site provides a listing of all the honchos in the organization, including Mitchell as Chairman, and wouldn’t you know it, Lillian Wissel, ol’ Dave’s wife as 2nd Vice Chair. A Wissel affair is here.

Heading up the Vacancy Committee is Michelle Hart. Hart penned the Republican perspective in last week’s Flume. Among other things, she tells us we’ve all become desensitized to government tyranny surpassing that which confronted the colonies in 1776. She claims she’s not calling for revolution to correct all this oppression but an awareness of “…how the complexion of a Free Nation became so muddled we hardly recognize it anymore.”

Spending a few moments perusing the ideological tenets of Park County’s brave new Repugnant Party is instructive.

Specifically, let’s focus on the Vacancy Committee where I assume Michelle Hart is recruiting precinct committee people. More precisely, I do wonder if Hart has a litmus test for determining if a person embraces the Repugnant ideology. You know, someone who is thoroughly imbued in everything from the Big Lie to Bill Gates created COVID-19 only to profit from it and track us all, one microchip at a time.

I’m told Hart is the editor or the publisher or both of the Lamplighter Patriot Press. Is she? So too, I’m told she has contributed to the Repugnant website, MyColoradoGOP. If she happens to pop in here, she might confirm that. Unfortunately, and unprofessionally, the editor of the Lamplighter Patriot Press doesn’t sign their name to their missives. Why is that?

I’ve read most of the online editions of the Lamplighter Patriot Press publication and can conclude it is a veritable potpourri of odiferous repugnance; a one-stop shop where any yahoo can catch up on all the latest festering conspiracies, untruths, and chip-on-the-shoulder perceived slights from the world outside their bubble. The site is loaded with assurances the Christian God is on their side.

There are missives from the editor in each edition. For example:

Christian nationalism is at the core of this nonsense. And, by the way, that little box highlighting the Trump/E. Jean Carroll imbroglio dated 9/22? The editor might want to revisit this.

Yeah, I know. Why can’t we all just get along? Stop calling people names, let’s all hold hands and sing a couple of choruses of Kumbaya. Hell, we could have a potluck and talk about kids, the countryside, the mountains, the critters, and good old dogs and sassy mares. And, believe me, I’m not immune to the fact we’d all probably offer the shirts off our backs to a neighbor in need regardless of their ideological stance. Right?

Of course, I’m right. But tell me, once we’ve sung our happy song and had a laugh or two, what then? Will I still be evil and will they still be encased in God’s armor intent on eradicating me and all those surly communists and socialists who creep around the county advocating for things like parks for the people, and an end to the vindictiveness of a particular narcissist who still can’t believe “that lady” ended his nearly 40 years of uninterrupted reign as King of the Property Rolls? How do we deal with folks who believe they are We the People, and everyone else isn’t?

Listen, if you’re legitimately needful you can have the shirt off my back no matter who you are, and no matter what you believe. But if your needs include a passionate intent to establish a regime, political party, or government entity, based on the tenets of your religion, and a sincere belief you are necessarily right because God told you so, you can’t have my shirt. Hell, you can’t even have my respect.

And, I do imagine Jesus would have told my imagined Park County Repugnant to get lost, probably clarifying what the Greeks called hubris would be her undoing.
