The Park County Board of Commissioners talked through the proposed 2023 budget on Tuesday. It was an unusually tame meeting.
I watched via Zoom, as I usually do. If I had participated in the public comments portion of the meeting, I would have said, “Wow! I can’t believe some yahoo didn’t use this public forum to insult and debase you guys today with impunity. I mean, really. Right?”
But I didn’t speak up. Of course, there were no ugly comments from the peanut gallery on Tuesday because the usual suspects who consistently spew ugliness weren’t present. At least I think the South Park Outsiders weren’t there either in person or remotely viewing. (The Outsider’s “Head Accountable” usually lurks quietly until it’s time to arch her back, bare her claws, hiss, and scream for a while.) And, the Wissel wasn’t there, though he did attend the Commissioner’s work session earlier. His public comments can be ugly, but they’re usually convoluted progressions and digressions about this and that, inevitably mostly about himself.
Speaking of Wissel.

Erik Aadland is an election denier, just like Tina Peters, Donald Trump, Ron Hanks, Lauren Boebert, the Outsiders, etc. Aadland lost to Brittany Pettersen in CD7 by about 16 points. Lots of election deniers lost not only in Colorado but around the country. Yet, the Wissel won in Park County by 440 votes or 4%. Election denier? His South Park Outsiders are. But you already know that. They’re even MAGA folks, still Trumpers, still ballyhooing the Big Lies with the enthusiasm of 2000 Mules hee-hawing after they ran amok in Fairplay on election night and a couple nights after.
Speaking of the South Park Outsiders, dba Ratified 1788.

It’s the Ratified 1788 part of that moniker that interests me. It is established as a 501(c)(4), a non-profit ostensibly for the promotion of “social welfare” causes. Their overt, shameless political electioneering on behalf of a candidate or cause cannot exceed 50% of their expenditures. Hmm… I wonder what politically oriented expenditures they will report to the Secretary of State as they are required to do? Interestingly, their Ratified 1788 website hasn’t been updated for months since they first created it.
The Outsiders had a victory shindig for the Wissel with banners and flags galore. Brandon was even there.
It looked like a nice affair, the victors enjoying the spoils and hovering over the Wissel, probably advising him to check those numbered accounts in Caribbean banks where all that stolen Park County tax money is hidden. You know, the two or three million bucks he’s going to find in the General Fund to hand over to Sheriff McGraw. (Alas, Dick and Deb Elsner never will finish their hideaway in Belize.)

So, as I said, the BOCC meeting of November 15, 2022, was quiet and informative.

And I didn’t even see any mules running around!!!!
